It would be safe to say that most people use a home inspector to examine a pre-owned home prior to purchasing. The majority of those seeking the services of a home inspection, rely on their Realtor's advice and/or recommendation on which home inspector to use. Other's will do on-line research, check for reviews, ask friends on social media, etc.. Only you, can decide which inspector you want for your home purchase. I offer these thoughts...
First, there are a lot of home inspectors to choose from and I would state the majority of them are quality people who are sincerely trying to do a competent inspection at a reasonable price.

Thirdly, whenever a real estate transaction is occurring and an inspection is being performed, the seller and seller's agent wants the inspector to find nothing and the buyer and buyer's agent wants the inspector to find everything.
In reality, A home inspection is an "Opinion Based Service" and many times it is likely, two inspectors would not agree on every discovery in any property.
Finally, I offer this thought. A real estate agent once asked me "Will your inspection kill my deal?" My answer - "No, the house kills the deal" Purchasing a home for most people, represents the largest single financial investment they will ever make. the more you know about what you are investing your hard earned money into, the better decision you can make.
REMEMBER - A Home Inspection attempts to reduce your risk, but will not eliminate your risk...
